Well….after months of torture, staying in on the weekends, revising chapters, it has all finally came to fruition. 64 pages later, I am done with thesis! This has definitely been the longest journey I can remember in sometime. I honestly do not even remember where I last left off at. My final chapter consisted of me discussing Hip-Hop’s future and their promise in upholding their social responsibilities to promote change. I analyzed lyrics from;
J. Cole with records such as “I Get Up,” “Losing My Balance,” and “See World.”
Kendrick Lamar with records such as “Vanity Slaves” and “Keisha’s Song (Her Pain).”
and Wale with the record “Shades.”
As usual, I tied these artists back with my earlier discussions of the generational thread between the Black Arts Movement and Hip-Hop, label politics, and media scrutiny towards Hip-Hop. It was a long journey, but I finally did it. The thought of graduating is an incredible feeling. I wish I could bask in my glory. However, I have another journey awaiting me; a 15-page research paper before I can go home. But I learned one thing after turning in this assignment; if you could write thesis, you could write anything.
